Live score abbreviations: HT, FT, AET, PEN and more

Live score pages use short codes to show the state of each match. Here is what they mean, so you always know whether a match is still being played, has finished or has been called off.

Before kick-off

A time such as 20:45 is the kick-off time, shown on Scorefoot in your own time zone. TBD (to be defined) means the date or time has not been confirmed yet, which is common for cup rounds and for matches that may be moved for television; Scorefoot then shows the provisional time.

During the match

The number shown during a match (for example 67) is the current minute. 45+2 or 90+4 means added time at the end of a half. HT is half-time. ET means the match is in extra time, BT is the break before extra time, and P means a penalty shoot-out is in progress.

After the match

FT (full time) means the match finished after 90 minutes plus added time. AET (after extra time) means it was decided in extra time. PEN means it was decided by a penalty shoot-out; the score shown is the score after extra time, and the shoot-out result is shown separately.

When a match does not go ahead

PST (postponed) means the match was moved to a later date. CANC means cancelled and SUSP means suspended, usually for weather or crowd problems, with the rest to be played later. ABD (abandoned) means the referee stopped the match for good. AWD means the result was awarded by the competition, and WO (walkover) means one team did not play.

Why scores can change after the final whistle

Live data is entered as the match happens. A goal can be credited to a different player after review, or a result can be changed by the competition after a disciplinary decision. Scorefoot updates scores and statistics as soon as the data changes.
